A Letter from the owner

"My training a Capilano College taught me the fundamentals of traditional studio art and composition. It was here where I started life drawing and painting. Some illustration techniques were also taught. In my Graphic Design training at Capilano I learned the building blocks of graphic design, covering how to design for your target audience, how to grab and focus the reader's attention with the layout, improving the legibility and readability of the typography, selecting images, choosing color and more. We covered many mediums and styles of drawing and rendering like cross hatching, lithographs and guache. My favorites were always the graphite or conte crayons.

It was around this time in my career that I crossed over from the pencil to the mouse. I enrolled at Vancouver Film School for New Media and 3D animation. Learning Macintosh, Unix and Windows platforms and many graphic based software products including: Corel Draw, Photoshop, Flash and 3D Maya and word processing. Around 1997 I created my first website for our VFS class 6.I have created over 100 sites since then.

Publishing Flash utilizes my animation training, delivering rich media to web and CD ROM. Working with Photoshop for over 10 years makes that another ideal environment for me to be creative. Mock-ups, layouts and other creative assets can be achieved in this space. I also use Fireworks for some web publishing.

In vector graphics programs like Illustrator, I create logo designs and illustrations for print and web.

After the creative art direction is agreed upon and signed off, I move into production skinning the design in a pixel perfect framework with CSS and XHTML. Here I also focus on the interface design and the user experience adding dynamic content, flash and SEO as needed.

I have been drawing a painting my whole life. I am inspired by several mediums including: film, broadcast, photography, print, typography and animation. Creativity is a big part of my life.

My design philosophy is: keep it simple and sexy. This helps the user navigate the website with ease and leave a lasting impression.

I marry the right brain and the left brain with creative development and design. I can wear several hats and handle multiple projects. I hand code valid HTML and CSS with experience in Javascript and AJAX. I also use server-side technologies like PHP and ASP. I am aware of cross browser issues and test my websites in all standard browsers.
