IP Phones

Save Money & Increase Productivity

PhoneSource Communications is a company that regonizes this changing time of business phone systems as they become another extension of "computer systems". By partnering with Fonality we intend to become the industry leader of this transition by making the corporate PBX affordable to the small and medium-sized business for the first time in history.

Phonesource Communications is the first premium Canadian reseller of Fonality.

Over time, the PBX has grown to incorporate all sorts of advanced features such as voicemail, unified messaging, auto attendant (IVR), automatic call distribution (ACD), call queuing, branch office support, telecommuters, softphones, CTI (integration with the PC), and more. With the advent of IP, the acronym PBX morphed into its latest incarnation, the IP PBX. An IP PBX is a PBX that supports packet-based transport protocols - commonly referred to as "VoIP". The most popular current protocol is SIP, which stands for "Session Initiation Protocol". Then, as the IP PBX began to rise in market share an even new label appeared called the "Hybrid IP PBX". A Hybrid IP PBX is an IP PBX that, along with VoIP, also supports legacy and analog switching protocols such as TDM. A Hybrid IP PBX will typically also support analog phones to complement its support of IP Phones. Fonality's PBXtra is a Hybrid IP PBX.

The Birth of a Company - PhoneSource and Fonality

he birth of PBXtra™ was quite by accident. Fonality was founded in 2002 and launched a residential VoIP product in 2003. As Fonality grew, and their phones started ringing, they found they needed to "graduate" to a multi-line phone system; they could no longer use their own residential product to handle the volume. So, they went shopping. They were shocked at the price of just a basic PBX system. For this reason, they developed their own in-house IP-PBX system. As time went by, they added an increasing number of features to the in-house prototype. One day they looked at what they had built and realized they had something special. Thus PBXtra™ was born.

PBXtra™ has matured since then by undergoing a major overhaul to introduce scalability, security, and ease-of-use into every corner of the product. Today's PBXtra™ is a robust and economical product, largely because it is built upon the OS backbone of Linux and the shoulders of the open-source IP-PBX platform named Asterisk.

When Chris Lyman the founder of Fonality called us in Vancouver to tell us about his new system, we new right away we had to bring this system into Canada. Phonesource was founded in 2004 to do just that. Bring an affordable fully featured PBX phone system to the businesses of Canada through our partnership with Fonality and PBXtra™.
